Mrs. Rooney
I am a 5th generation Seattleite from a long line of Catholics. My husband and I are parishioners at St. Brendan Parish and both our children were baptized here. Our daughter, Margaret, is a graduate of St. Brendan School, and our son Merak, it a current student.
My education began at St. Anne School on Queen Anne Hill. From there, I went on to graduate from Bishop Blanchet High School. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Education with a focus on Early Childhood Education from Central Washington University.
My first experience as a teacher took place in a first grade classroom. It was such a rewarding experience watching the students learn and grow. For ten years, I worked with students of all ages and skill levels in various subjects with a strong focus on math instruction. I was the Assistant Director of Education at the Totem Lake Sylvan Learning Center and was responsible for training other teachers, developing curriculum and planning individualized programs for students. In 2013-14 I started working at St. Brendan teaching math to small groups of 5th and 6th graders. The following year, in partnership with Mrs. Scheuer, I became the afternoon first grade teacher. I taught the first graders religion, math, science, and social studies. In 2015, I started working with small math groups in grades K-8. I have always loved math and enjoy sharing that love through fun hands on and movement math activities in my classroom. Over the years, I have also been fortunate to teach Pre Algebra, 8th grade Math, and Science to middle schoolers. I have truly enjoyed getting to know the wonderful staff and students at this school.
In the winter months, I enjoy helping injured skiers and snowboarders as a member of the Summit West Ski Patrol at Snoqualmie Pass. I have been Patrolling at Snoqualmie for the past 25+ years and was in charge of training all incoming Patrollers for more than 9 years.
