What an exciting start we’ve had to the 2019 school year! Among the highlights are Middle School orientation, bell schedule, SOS class, newly designed St. Brendan website, and subscription option to homework postings. “What’s happening in our favorite subject, Math?” you ask. Let’s take a look. (:

6TH GRADE
What do M&M’s, 2 bags of pennies, and white icing with yellow food coloring have in common? Ask a 6th grader and they will tell you… RATIOS!

7TH GRADE
This year’s homeroom is a GREAT group! We’ve had a good time getting to know each other. Once we established our classroom norms, we went on a scavenger hunt, tested our listening skills with LEGOS, worked on a first day of school meme, and put the F-U-N in centers.
7A – We suited up for ski season and headed for the SLOPES of a line.
7B – With the help of Mark Rober’s skipping rock machine and special delivery from Mrs. Rooney, we learned how to SOLVE PROBLEMS the UPS√ way.

8TH GRADE
Here they come… watch out! These 8th grade elites were mere 6th grade pups when I started at St Brendan’s. Where does the time go? They will always hold a special place in my heart as my first middle school class.
8A – “All Aboard!” the MONOMIAL math train as we traveled through POWERS & EXPONENTS stations.
8B – “ABC is easy as 123…” Just ask 8th graders as we reviewed our PROPERTIES OF NUMBERS.

To guide us through these middle school math adventures, we have added an ounce of competition with activities such as, Desk Roulette, Relay Ball, and Ring Toss. This is a brief recap of some of the topics we have covered in classes, thus far.
Also, in the news… visitors. Rene Descartes made his annual trek from France to St. Brendan to teach 6th and 7th graders about the COORDINATE PLANE. Mrs. Rooney will be a regular visitor to our math classes. And, this year, we get to add Mrs. Riley to our list of visitors. She will be volunteering in our 8th grade classrooms twice a month. We hope you enjoyed reading about our math madness. Let the craziness continue!
