Welcome to 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Math.
Meet Mrs. Kem Deehr
I’m very excited to join the St. Brendan family! Prior to St. Brendan, I taught middle and high school math in Virginia, Tennessee, and California. I also worked as a Certified Public Accountant for 10 years. I received a BBA in Accounting and an MBA in Finance from Kent State University, and my Teaching Certification from Virginia Wesleyan University.
I live in Bothell with my husband, John, and our two children. Eli (11) is an avid gymnast, and Reagan (9) loves to dance. John retired from the Navy in 2016 after 30 years of service. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy dancing, billiards, cross-stitching, sudoku, and mysteries.
Three interesting facts about me:
1. I got married on my birthday.
2. I’ve wanted to be a math teacher since I was six years old.
3. I’ve visited 49 out of 50 states (only missing North Dakota).
I’m passionate about math, and I guarantee my enthusiasm will be contagious in the classroom!
6th Grade – We are beginning Chapter 10 Volume and Surface Area. Hard to believe we have covered 700+ pages! With the help of centimeter cubes, we did some discovery learning about volume. How many centimeter cubes fit into a file cabinet? Students worked to find the answer. See photos below.
7th Grade – We are almost done with our Geometric investigations. What better way to prepare for a test in Geometry than with Speed Dating?!? Each student shared his expertise with peers. After our test on Chapter 8, we will dive into our next unit. Unit 5 explores Statistics and Probability. How fun!
8th Grade – Students and I have been anxiously awaiting all year to play with Quadratic Equations. I know, total nerds! (o: Finally it is time as we embark on Chapter 8. Quad means four and there are four ways to multiply quadratic equations. Students moved from station to station and selected which method was their favorite. See the photos below.
Prodigy Math Game – Students are having fun playing this innovated, educational math video game. They are to do so at least one hour a week at home. Take a look!
