Welcome to Pre-K at St. Brendan School!
St. Brendan Pre-Kindergarten provides a safe, faith-centered atmosphere for young children. Our age-appropriate classroom environment promotes opportunities for the development of early academic and social skills. Using our positive classroom atmosphere, we encourage and model respectful communication, decision making, creative thinking, and problem solving. We foster values important to our faith such as using kind words when solving problems, actively participating in prayer, doing service for others, and being thankful for all God has provided for us.
Our pre-kindergarten program prepares students for our kindergarten class. The curriculum includes religion, early literacy, math, science, social studies, music, library, and art. Students have classes with St. Brendan School specialists in art, music, technology and physical education. Also, students are integrated into the larger school community by attending school Masses, having 4th grade buddies, school assemblies, and taking part in a cross-age student family.
Meet Mrs. Erica Billard
Hello! My name is Erica Billard and I am the full day pre-kindergarten director and teacher at St. Brendan Catholic School. I started teaching pre-kindergarten in the fall of 2013 and I have been at St. Brendan’s since the fall of 2014.
I attended Western Washington University and earned a B.A. in French and Linguistics in 2008. After graduation, I followed my passion for working with young children. I volunteered in various preschools in the styles of parent co-op, Reggio Emilia, and HighScope.
In 2010, I went back to WWU to pursue a teaching certification in Elementary Education. I completed subject specific practicums in 1st, 2nd, and 4th grade and did my year-long student teaching in kindergarten.
In 2013, I was the lead pre-kindergarten teacher at a Headstart classroom in northern Canada. Each day, I was immersed in the local culture and taught vocabulary in the Native American language of Woodland Cree. As well, I completed weeks of professional development around the newest research on early childhood education, physical literacy, and exploring how purposeful play is essential to learning.
In 2014, I began teaching at St. Brendan’s. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to teach where academics are highly valued, yet equally valued is integrating our faith into all parts of our day. I am passionate about working with young children and I feel honored that to some I am their first teacher in a school setting.
After learning about traits of fall, the Pre-K students draw a still life of a changing tree on our playground.
